Middle East 'on fire' from US-Israel attack on Iran: Kremlin
Kremlin warns US-Israeli attack on Iran has set the Middle East 'on fire', with dangerous consequences and regional escalation impacting the global economy.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the joint US-Israeli attack on Iran has left almost the entire Middle East region 'on fire', confirming Russia's earlier warnings about the dangerous consequences of this move. Tensions escalated when US President Donald Trump demanded in an expletive-laden social media post that Iran unblock the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to demolish Iranian power plants and bridges if not done by Tuesday. Iran maintains that the key waterway is only closed for oil shipments by the US and its allies.
When asked by journalists about Trump's comments, Peskov declined to comment directly but emphasized that tensions continue to rise, with the region basically 'on fire'. He stressed these are dangerous and very negative consequences of the aggression unleashed against Iran, with the conflict's geography expanding and negative repercussions for the global economy. Over the past weeks, Iran has responded to strikes from Washington and West Jerusalem with missiles and drones targeting Israel and Gulf States allied with the US.
Furthermore, the war has triggered a global energy shock, sending oil and gas prices surging and pushing fuel costs higher for consumers worldwide. Peskov added that Russia had warned from the start that such consequences were inevitable. Meanwhile, regional mediators are reportedly pushing for a 45-day ceasefire in the conflict, though Iran has denied holding any talks with Washington. Russia has repeatedly called for a cessation of hostilities in the Middle East and offered to help find a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
