Milla Jovovich debuts AI memory tool MemPalace on GitHub

Hollywood star Milla Jovovich releases MemPalace, an open-source AI tool to enhance long-term memory, available for free on GitHub for developers.

Hollywood actress Milla Jovovich, famous for roles in films like 'Resident Evil' and 'The Fifth Element', has ventured into artificial intelligence with the release of MemPalace, an open-source memory tool published on GitHub. Announced on Tuesday, the project was developed in collaboration with Ben Sigman and is described as a free system designed to improve how AI handles long-term memory. Jovovich stated that MemPalace is 'an agentic memory tool that scored 100% on LongMemEval... higher than any other published results,' noting it's available for developers to use and modify.

The idea behind MemPalace stemmed from frustration with existing AI systems for information retrieval. Jovovich criticized current approaches, comparing them to 'a huge warehouse... a pile of junk,' where users often struggle to locate relevant data even with well-organized files. 'AI is just not great at finding things... every system out there still has it using keywords,' she explained, describing these methods as 'clunky and messy.'

The concept draws on the ancient 'memory palace' technique, which organizes information spatially to aid recall. 'Why not create a virtual Memory Palace?', said Jovovich, pointing out that the system divides information into structured 'rooms' to enhance retrieval. LongMemEval, the benchmark cited, is designed to test long-term memory capabilities in AI systems, including multi-session reasoning and temporal tracking across conversations.

Jovovich, born in Kiev and raised in the United States, had not been previously associated with AI development, having worked primarily in film, music, and fashion. In this project, she describes herself as the 'architect,' while Sigman led the technical development. The tool was published under an open-source license, allowing free use and modification by the developer community.
