Iran shoots down US fighter jet, strikes Kuwait oil refinery

Iran downs US F-15E fighter jet and attacks Kuwait oil refinery. Trump threatens Iranian power plants. Search for crew ongoing amid regional escalation.

Iran claims to have shot down a latest-generation US F-35 fighter jet, while American officials confirm it was an F-15E. A search and rescue operation is underway in Iranian territory to locate the crew of the downed aircraft, according to reports from Reuters and CBS News. This incident occurs amid a regional escalation marked by missile and drone exchanges between the US, Israel, and Iran.

Simultaneously, Iran has carried out attacks on oil infrastructure. According to the Iranian state news agency, strikes hit Kuwait's Mina al-Ahmadi oil refinery, causing fires in several operational units. These attacks are part of a broader response to US and Israeli military actions in the region.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to escalate strikes against Iran, suggesting that electric power plants could be next. This warning came hours after US forces attacked Iran's tallest highway bridge linking Tehran and Karaj, rendering it inoperable. Trump stated on Truth Social that military actions "haven't even started destroying what's left in Iran."

In response, Iranian military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari warned of immediate retaliation if the US follows through with its threats. Zolfaghari mentioned that Israeli energy and IT infrastructure, as well as regional companies with American shareholders, would face "complete and utter annihilation." Additionally, Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz to US and Israeli ships long-term, while Iranian officials deny seeking a ceasefire or engaging in talks.
